Varun Chakravarthy Vinod (born August 29, 1991) is an Indian leg-spin bowler who currently represents Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket and the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In July 2021, he made his international debut for the Indian cricket team.
He’s a left-handed off-break bowler. On September 20, 2018, he made his List A debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy. With twenty-two dismissals in nine matches, he was the highest wicket-taker for Tamil Nadu in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy. On November 12, 2018, he made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy.
IPL and International carrer
He was purchased for 8.4 crores by the Kings XI Punjab in the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) in December 2018. On March 27, 2019, he made his Twenty20 debut for the squad. His first over for 25 runs were the most runs surrendered by a bowler in the IPL on debut. The Kings XI Punjab released him prior to the 2020 IPL auction. He was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 IPL auction ahead of the Indian Premier League. He took his first five-wicket haul in the IPL against the Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi on October 24, 2020, with stats of 5 wickets for 20 runs.
He was chosen in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) team for the series against Australia in October 2020. Chakravarthy, however, was ruled out of the squad after suffering an injury on November 9, 2020. He was chosen in India’s T20I team for the series against England in February 2021.
He was chosen in India’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) teams for the series against Sri Lanka in June 2021. On July 25, 2021, he made his T20I debut for India against Sri Lanka, getting the wicket of Dasun Shanaka.
