He debuted for India in 1981 against New Zealand at Wellington. Within 2 years of his international stint, Shastri was moved up the order, from 10 to the opening. Shastri’s above-average height provided him an edge over the fast bowlers, and he could demolish the spinners on his day with ease. He equaled the record of Sir Gary Sobers by hitting 6 sixes in an over in domestic cricket.
His improved batting made him a handy allrounder for the team, in contrast to his debut as a spinner. He retired with almost 7000 international runs, and more than 250 wickets. Post Retirement, Ravi Shastri was appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian team in 2017.

With an astounding height of over 6 feet, Ravi played pace with ease and also had enough power to demolish the spinners. He was more than a good spinner with more than 270 wickets in his international career. The highlight of his playing career came in 1985 when he has crowned the Champion of the Champions.
