Weerahandige The professional Sri Lankan cricket player Inol Avishka Fernando (born April 5, 1998), better known as Avishka Fernando, is now playing on a limited international side for Sri Lanka on the national side.
Avishka Fernando, a bruising right-hander with a deft touch, caught the eye while representing St. Sebastian’s College in Moratuwa before making good on his promise at the national Under-19 level.
Prior to the age of 14, Fernando had scored hundreds for the first 11th year of his school, becoming one of the most productive batters in the school system and struck more than 1000 rounds in 2015.. He was finally selected for Sri Lanka’s age-group teams, and in 2014, he scored a century in his second Youth ODI innings, scoring 127 off 103 balls against visiting Australia Under 19s.
Fernando really came into his own at the Under-19 level after a successful high school season. He scored 95 off 96 balls in Sri Lanka’s quarter-final win against England in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, and later that year he scored two consecutive hundreds against the same opposition, this time in a bilateral series in England.
Those innings, which came as part of an unparalleled series whitewash for Sri Lanka Under-19s, earned Fernando a call-up to the national ODI team for the series against Australia, despite his lack of List A or first-class cricket experience.
