Charith Asalanka (born 29 June 1997 in Elpitiya) is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He played for Sri Lanka’s national team from 2007 to 2011. The Sri Lanka cricket team called him up in June 2021, and he made his international debut. After a three-day match against an English under-17 team at Loughborough in 2013, Asalanka opened the batting for Sri Lanka’s under-17 team and scored 92 and 31 respectively. During the 2014-15 school twenty-20 competition, he batted at the top of the order for his school, Richmond College, Galle. In 2014-15, he was the captain of the national under-19 team, which played against teams from Australia and Bangladesh. In Sri Lanka’s five-match limited-overs series against Bangladesh under-19, he scored 225 runs at an average of 45.00 and took eight wickets at 21.00, making him the team’s second-highest wicket-taker. In 2015 and 2016, he was named Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year, making him only the seventh player to win the award twice.

For the England series in November 2018, he was added to Sri Lanka’s Test squad. A few months later, in December 2018, he was named Sri Lanka’s captain for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2018. The ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup will take place in Bangladesh in November, and Sri Lanka’s captain will be him. Later that month, he was named Sri Lanka’s captain for the cricket tournament at the 2019 South Asian Games, which will take place next year. They lost to Bangladesh by seven wickets in the final and won the silver medal.
Asalanka was selected for Sri Lanka’s tour of England in June 2021. Sri Lanka played England in an ODI on 29 June 2021, and he made his ODI debut. His name was added to Sri Lanka’s squad for the series against India in July 2021. It was against India on 19 July 2021 that Asalanka scored his first ODI fifty. Against India, he made his T20I debut on 25 July 2021.
